Mark 11:1-11 1 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2 and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it.8 And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”
11 And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

DISCUSSION
1. Study through Mark 11:1-11 together. What stands out to you and why?
2. According to what the people are crying out—Hosanna!—what is Jesus’ ultimate mission? How did He do it? How do we take part in saving others? Who can you start or keep meeting with on a regular basis to disciple them or be discipled by them?
3. How were Muhammed’s entrance into Medina and Jesus’ entrances into Jerusalem symbolic of the movements they initiated? What are some other fundamental differences between Islam and Christianity?
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9
4. How does Jesus fulfill Zechariah 9:9 here? What does this passage promise the King will have?
5. How is Jesus unlike ordinary kings or world leaders in His person, character, and mission? (take each at a time)
4 And I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain. Revelation 5:4-6
6. How does Revelation 5:4-6 show how utterly complex Jesus is? In what ways do we need Jesus to be a Lion who conquers? In what ways do we need Him to be the Lamb that was slain?
GOOD WORD
On the cross, Jesus became our sin and died in our place. Why? So He could destroy sin without destroying us. He is the King that deserves not only our honor because of who He is, but our love because of what He’s done.
